Farming
Our agricultural vision begins on the farm, where the foundations of quality, sustainability and trust are built. We are proud to work hand-in-hand with the farmers, producers and partners who share our commitment to raising standards to strengthen and cultivate a more resilient, responsible future for our industry.
We are fostering a new approach
Transparency, connectivity and collaboration sit at the heart of our approach. We are working to build a supply chain that is future proofed and better connected. One that champions British & Irish agriculture, strengthens resilience and delivers food produced with passion and pride.
Collaborating for a stronger future
Launched in March 2026, Sofina Connect is an exciting new collaborative programme we have developed to strengthen the resilience of the UK and Irish pig industry. The scheme will bring farmers, Sofina and its customers together, to share responsibility for improvements across animal welfare, environmental impact and long-term business viability. At its core, Sofina Connect is built on six interlinked pillars, including animal health and welfare, environmental stewardship, innovation and farmer development. The programme supports farmers to invest in continuous improvement above industry standards.
By sharing risk and promoting collaboration, the initiative aims to secure a sustainable future for producers while ensuring a consistent supply of British pork to meet growing demand. Find out more HERE
Animal Care
Above all, we remain committed to continuous improvement in the areas that matter most, especially animal welfare. Raising the bar on performance in these challenging areas is not only an ethical responsibility, it is a source of pride and a cornerstone of the trust we want to continue to build with our customers and communities.
The Sofina Connect Animal Health and Welfare pillar will focus on helping farmers to undertake continuous improvement on pig welfare in key areas, including a clear pathway to establishing flexible farrowing systems.
Farm and Welfare data will be captured through a central Welfare Hub to provide greater transparency across the supply chain. To accelerate innovation, a network of farmers will be supported to undertake Research and Development, addressing knowledge gaps and driving innovation.
We have an ongoing commitment to producing high quality products that adhere to the highest animal welfare standards across our own farm operations and throughout our supply chains in pork and seafood. We are RSPCA assured, BRC Certified, Red Tractor Certified in pork and adhere to the ‘Fish for Life’ program in seafood.
Working with farmers
We are proud to have strong farming links going back many years, many farmers have been working with us for over three generations.
As well as our own breeding farms, we work with a large network of independent farmers across England, Scotland, Ireland and Northern England who rear pigs on our behalf.
We breed our own pigs through our Brydock farms, as well as sourcing animals from farmers local to our operations. Pigs are raised across a variety of production systems; Indoor and Outdoor Bred, Outdoor Reared, Freedom Food and raised without antibiotics.
Our outdoor bred pork is produced from pigs bred on our own farms in Brydock, Scotland, in the Aberdeen and Elgin regions. Our pigs are born outdoors and are free roaming, with the temperate climate, sandy soil and local straw.
We pride ourselves on rearing happy, healthy pigs, translating into truly great tasting pork.
We often have new partnership opportunities available for farmers. Whether you have existing units to house weaners and/or finishers, or are looking to move into pig production, please get in touch via agriculture.inbox@sofinafoods.co.uk
